When you are planning a trip away from home, you want your hotel lodging to be comfortable and provide you all the services and features that you need. There may be many hotels and different lodgings available based on where you are planning to go, so be sure to do your research before you travel so you can be comfortable. Here are some tips to help you find and schedule the right hotel in your chosen area for your upcoming trip.

Understand the Location

When you book a hotel, the location of the property is important because it needs to be in the right city and even in a specific area of the city. For example, if you plan to visit the beach while you are staying at your hotel, you will want the hotel to be within walking distance or driving distance of a local beach with public access. Depending on your transportation available and the days you will plan to visit, you will need to check into a hotel's specific location before you book.

You should also look at the location of a hotel on the map to see where it is located within proximity of nearby attractions, shopping, and restaurants. You don't want to reserve a hotel and plan to dine out at restaurants only to find out there are no restaurants within close walking proximity if you don't want to hire transportation. It is a good idea to check out the map to see a hotel's location and also look at the physical map to see what types of buildings and other structures are in the area.

Ask for Specific Features

On the day you plan to check into your chosen hotel, you can take some extra steps to help you get a room with specific details and features that you want to help make your stay better. Call before you arrive and talk to the front desk clerk, or if you are not able to call in advance, talk to the clerk when you arrive to ask for a specific room. The hotel that you are staying at will have a variety of different rooms available for that night's stay, and you can have a bit of selection in where you sleep.

For example, if you want to stay in a room with a great view, you can ask for a specific room with this detail. If you want to avoid staying in a room above the dock area and service entrance to the hotel, be sure to request that your room is well away from this area. If you want to have a larger room or a room with a balcony or even close to the elevator, ask the desk clerk to put you in the right room. They can make this type of selection for you when you check in, and if they know what you do and do not prefer they can make the adjustments in the room they rent to you.
